How to Remove your House from Google Street View

Over the last decade or so Google has expanded beyond being just a simple search engine. The first sign of this expansion was the release of Google Maps in 2005, which offered a great way to plan a journey to almost anywhere that you could imagine. Over the years the Google Maps project has grown to feature satellite imagery which documents millions of points of interest across the globe, in addition to providing services such as satellite navigation and information on traffic conditions, public transport and lots more. More than a billion people use Google Maps today, and one of the most popular features is Street View.

Google Street View allows you to view and navigate through panoramic street images of various towns and cities throughout the world. Introduced as a work in progress in 2007, for over 10 years Google have been driving around in cars fitted with cameras to provide up-to-date images of millions of cities across most of the UK, Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. As these cars continue to drive around, Street View is constantly being updated with new or improved images of our streets. While it’s great to be able to have a nose at a different street with just a few clicks of the mouse, many people believe that services such as Street View are invading our privacy.

A number of celebrities have made it known that they have asked Google to remove their home from Google Street View for reasons concerning their privacy. Such celebrities include Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page and Martine McCutcheon. The good news is that you don’t have to be a celebrity or VIP to remove the image of your home from Google Streetview – anyone can do it. All you have to do is send a request to Google to blur out your house. Here’s how to do just that.

The first thing to do is find your own home on Google Streetview, by searching for your address on Google Maps. Once your street has been located on Google Maps, you need to active Google Street View, by dragging the yellow figure at the bottom of the screen to the blue line that overlays your street on the map. Doing that will bring you down to street level where you will be able to see your house.

Navigate by clicking and dragging your mouse up and down the street until you have a clear view of your house. Then, click on the ‘Report a problem’ link on the bottom right of your screen. Doing so will open a new page which will have an image preview of your house. Underneath the ‘Why are you reporting this image?’ heading you can choose to request blurring or report the image quality. In this case we want to request blurring, so we simply click the ‘My home’ button next to this option.

After you’ve done that, simply fill in your email address and complete the reCAPTCHA, and then press the blue Submit button. Hopefully within a few days Google will comply with your request for privacy, and you’ll be one step closer to anonymity. It’s worth noting though however, that people will still be able to see your house when passing it in real life.

Has Google Maps and Street View Proved that Aliens Exist?

In the 12 years that Google Maps has been available, many strange things have been noted. Some of these things have been adequately explained while others have remained a mystery. However, could the sheer number of findings that haven’t yet been given a rational explanation possible be something to do with beings from another world?

Many people believe that aliens are real, and a large proportion of believers also think that aliens have already made contact with out planet. The following things which can be seen on Google Maps and Google Street View are some of the things that have yet to be explained by the more sceptical people out there. Are they natural phenomena, technical glitches or proof that aliens exist? You decide…

This strange floating island known as ‘El Ojo de Otamendi’ in Argentina is a perfectly circular-shaped piece of land that floats in a body of water and is even known to rotate on an axis, just like Earth does. While it certainly is amazing to look at – even on Google Maps – it’s the shape that has got people thinking that this is something from another world. Some people believe that this is the entrance to an alien base, as the circle is large enough to allow a 100 metre UFO through.

This image was captured by a satellite and is currently on Google Maps in Arizona, USA. People believe that this could be a crashed flying saucer, and the fact that it happens to be in a restricted area only makes people even more curious about it. While there has been no official explanation as to what it could be, some people think it could simply be a yurt hut.

This mysterious shape which appeared in a field in Australia has sparked many questions. Depicted as a large triangle with bright lights evenly placed around it, this peculiar object is considered by many to be definitive proof that aliens are among us. First discovered over 10 years ago, this image has baffled UFO enthusiasts. The official explanation is that this could be a remote-controlled wind farm, but what do you think?

It’s not just the habitable continents that have had UFO sightings via Google Maps. This picture was taken above Antarctica and is believed to be a crash site for an alien craft of some description. There certainly is some sort of unexplained dent in the snow here, but what could have caused it? Could it be something extra-terrestrial, or just a natural phenomena that occurs in this kind of climate?

For such a sparsely populated place, Antarctica has had more than its fair share of UFIO sightings on Google maps. Perhaps the fact that there are very few people there makes it a place for aliens to visit. One thing for sure is that the south pole definitely appears to be a hive of extra-terrestrial activity. The circle in the above picture is widely believed to be a flying saucer, and as yet there has been no logical explanation for what is shown in the image.

Google Maps: Catching Strange People, Unidentified Landmarks and Lost Cities since 2005

Google maps is over 13 years old this year and has come a long way since it was introduced way back in 2005. Though originally meant as a project to enable us to explore the globe from the comfort of our favourite chair, Google Maps has become so much more than that. The internet is full of discussions about various things that have been caught on Google Maps’ satellite and Street View images, with new things being discovered every single day.

Since Google maps has been introduced there have been various sightings of strange looking people, naked people, unidentified landmarks and even lost cities.

Naked people on Google Maps

With over 7 billion people on the planet, there is a great chance that at any given time many people will be naked. But what are the odds of being caught naked by the Google Street View car? Apparently, quite high:

Strange people on Google Maps

There is no shortage of strange people on earth anyway, so it’s no surprise that so many weird looking people have also been seen on Google Street View:

When it comes to lost cities, many people think of Atlantis. And many people were very excited when they thought that they were the first people on earth to have discovered part of the lost continent of Atlantis on Google Maps. There are hundreds of forum posts and discussions about the discovery, which – according to Google – is just a digital artefact created by the sonar boats when collecting mapping data.

When it comes to strange things that have been seen on Google Maps, there are more than naked, strange looking people and lost cities that have been discovered. Thousands of unusual or unidentified landmarks have been seen across the globe, and despite being in the spotlight for a few years now, many of them haven’t been adequately explained. Here are a few examples of such landmarks.

This huge pattern was seen using Google Maps and is located in the Gobi desert, North China. It’s over a mile wide and apart from the official explanation of it being a calibration mark for China’s satellites, many people are sceptical.

The above landmark is also located in North China, in an area that is well-known for building military, space and nuclear equipment. In this particular image you can see planes and burned out cars quite clearly, further fuelling rumours that this isn’t something ordinary.

So there you have it, just a few of the many thousands of unexplained anomalies that have been appearing on Google maps over the last 12 years. As the Google satellites circle the globe in the future we can only expect to see even more inexplicable sightings both from above and at street level.
